WOOO HOOO

At 6:08 the courier arrived to pick up the final version of the book and deliver it to the printer.  22 minutes early, in a project where every step has been months late. Luckily, this stage wasn't late... well not today anyway. So, instead of driving away, he came upstairs to wait the "only 2 minutes" I promised him it would take...

But he didn't wait, he helped.  He shoved the waybills into the little plastic baggies, and then stuck the little plastic baggies to the envelopes,  while I rushed around like a mad-woman making sure the CD got burned correctly.

Then he grabbed the stuff, rushed down the stairs and drove away. 

WOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

It's done. Until the Monday when the printer can't open the files, or the pagination used for the PDF needs to be in spreads, or some font buried somewhere explodes in a cloud of urgent insanity.

But for now, it's done. I get a night off. I get a weekend off. I'm unbelievably .... well... truth be told... confused.  Shouldn't I still be working.  I'm sure there are errors and mistakes still in there... shouldn't I be rooting them out and fixing them so that when that crisis happens, I can sneak the fixes in... you see the issue.

AHA, that's Ger at the door.  He'll distract me... "Oh, honey!  It's time for champers!!!!!"

Waiting for the Woo Hoo

If you are wondering why you haven't yet recieved the "Woo Hoo, the book is DONE." email yet, it's because... well... it's not done.

Yes - we were couriering it to the printer today.

Yes - we were solidly on track.

Yes - we had backups.

No - we weren't able to recover everything.

No - I'm not a happy camper.

Yes - it's still going to the printer this week.

No - I'm not going to say anything more about it. I'm too busy.

Yes - the book ROCKs!

Hope all is well with you and your projects.  And always remember, backup, backup again, backup on another device, backup on something removable, and keep a hard copy.  It'll save your butt one day!

For those of you wondering why I haven't been posting lately, I'm in the throws of book production. We're sending the next edition to the printers on Monday, and it's kind of crazy around here. So while I'm in front of the computer, and editing & writing my ass off, it's all about one thing and one thing only.

As a break, twice daily, I check in to see if anyone is commenting, but that's all my play-time 'til Monday. (When I get to start the promo campaign and planning the launch party - oh... I guess I won't have all that much free time then either.)

Gerry's B'day.

After his mind-blowingly thoughtful and loving b'day blow-out for me, just 9 days ago, I had a hard act to follow.

I failed.

We celebrated Ger's b'day by moving my computer into the living room so I could keep working, ordering in Indian from Ruchi (Butter Chicken & Rogan Josh) and watching Star Wars III - Revenge of the Sith. I feel asleep during a fight/chase scene. Gerry put me to bed.  I have a lovely man!

In my defense, which I sorely need, he wouldn't let me organise anything because he knew we'd be under some serious time pressure. But still. I suck.

Luckily, his parents are coming up this weekend to treat him right.

It's International Delurking Week!

Now I don't know where this all started, who started it, and I certainly don't have time to dig.. but I sure know why it started. 

It started because some poor blogger was out there sitting behind their computer screen wondering... "Is it all worth it? All this baring of the soul, sharing of photos and intimate peeks into my life. You blog and blog and see the hits come in, but no one comments.    With no commentors, and all the aggregators out there, it's hard to tell if anyone's out there.  Hello... hello?"

I'm sure that's what started it all, and I feel for that poor little blogger.  I mean, I know, some of my posts suck... but come on... blogs are supposed to be ego-centric. Aren't they?  At least I'm not posting pictures of my dead cat. 

I'm getting hits from people searching for Elexa vibrating rings and "little blue pills", which I gather is a code name for Viagra, so there's certainly some interesting people popping in for a read.  Why aren't they saying "hi", sharing stories of silly products named after them?

Okay, enough of this... I have work to do.  I'm working way to hard to even do a regular blog posting.  6 days to deliver the book to the printers and content is flying to the left, and to the right.  I finally got the last bl**ping restaurant to answer their phone yesterday to finish the fact checking - hurrah! So what am I doing writing this... Oh ya,
