Okay, yesterday I promised that I would participate in NaBloPoMo and post at least one post a day following Maggie Mason's No One Cares What You Had for Lunch 100 blog post ideas.
Little did I know what I was getting myself into.
In the midst of a day filled with meetings I ran up against Maggie's suggestion: #1 Reign Supreme.
It starts with the message that "All of us should just learn to tolerate stupid people. But what if you didn't have to?" and ends with "if you ruled the world, things would be better".
I'm not entirely sure that is true... however, if I ruled the world, people would be allowed to be as "stupid" as they want to be and no one else would take it as a personal slight.
Because, really, if I have to hear another person carp and moan about someone else's idiosyncratic behaviour I might just have to smack them. Or as grrrr says "No One Cares What Your Coworker Said".
Sure, some of us are drama queens, messy, don't answer our phones, could use a serious makeover, are late for meetings, sit too close, dish the dirt, don't floss, should wax before wearing that bathing suit, don't put the top back on the toothpaste, leave the toilet seat up, put the toilet seat down, can't write, can't sing, snore too loudly, talk too softly, have annoying kids, don't have annoying kids, don't listen, over analyse, don't pay attention, pay way too much attention, pile the dishes instead of stacking and leave their clothes on the floor.
But the world is a much better place because some of us say tomato and others say ketchup.
If I ruled the world, we'd all relish the fact we live in a world where each of us has the option to express our individuality in a myriad of wonderful, annoying, colourful, irksome, charming, frustrating, and entertaining ways.
Sooo, basically . . . if you ruled the world, Maggie Mason and her judgmental attitude could fuck right off.

I guess, kinda, ya. Thanks for pointing out what a hypocrite I am. Geeze.
But really, if I ruled the world we'd have a big-ass party and everyone would be invited! Maggie too.

Yeeeeeeeeeeah, I didn't mean it in a "you're a hypocrite" sense, 'cause you're not - I just meant it in a "your post was so po mo I had to distill it to understand it" sense. Also, I loved it and it made me laugh really hard.

Fret not, I laughed my ass off when I read your comment. These Po-Mos are a bit of a struggle, at least these first 2. 15-minute ideas, my ass! Though perhaps the challenge is I'm being too earnest. God, imagine what's going to happen when we get to "tell us your fears and why"... I'd better be loosened up by then!
