This Week On CheapEats...

As you may already know I'm deep into the verification phase of the next edition of CheapEats Ottawa.  That has meant that I have little time for blogging... though I do seem to be keeping myself quite active on that f*book thing.

So I figured a quickie round up of what's been happening on the CheapEats blogs might do until I can get a little free brain space and share my most intimate and personal tales of what is happening Chez LexnGer.

• Andrea has been busy, checking out both the veggie patty at The Works for  The Patty Debate  and the BLT at Three Bakers & a Bike
• I also did a little f*book research and realized Facebook Takes Ottawa Restaurant Fandom to a new level  (you can expect a similar piece for Toronto very soon.)
• Karen has just released her latest Vintages Value List for tomorrow's release including her top 4 picks: Vintages Value List for Saturday September 29, 2007

I have posed a little pre-Thanksgiving question over on F*book.  (They have this cool "My Questions" app that lets you ask your friends a question on the sidebar of your profile. I know, I know... but I'm a widget & social media junkie.)

I realized, as the responses started flooding in, that I have a lot of people reading my blog that I'd like to have answer the question too.  So take a second, answer the question below, include a recipe (or not) and I'll share the lot with you here mid-next week.

Idigo Goes Community, Lex Was There

I'm delighted to announce that I've been invited to write for One Degree.  I've been reading One Degree  since Tara Hunt got me hooked and when Kate Trgovac invited me to write for them, I jumped at the chance. The contributor list reads like a who's who of Canadian internet marketing. If you are at all interested in what's happening online from a marketing, business and communications perspective  One Degree is an invaluable resource.

Fer all ye lubbers out thar, here be some helpful pirate talkin' tips:

Double up on all your adjectives and you'll be bountifully bombastic with your phrasing. Pirates never speak of "a big ship", they call it a "great, grand ship!" They never say never, they say "No nay ne'er!"

Drop all your "g"'s when you speak and you'll get words like "rowin'", "sailin'" and "fightin'". Dropping all of your "v"'s will get you words like "ne'er", "e'er" and "o'er".

Instead of saying "I am", sailors say, "I be". Instead of saying "You are", sailors say, "You be". Instead of saying, "They are", sailors say, "They be". Ne'er speak in anythin' but the present tense!

Me matie Kate located a righteously grand device fer findin' yer Pirate name.  Twas neccessary t' run me name up t' mast twice t' see if t'would find me many personas.

What Is It About Ottawa In The Fall?

That makes me want to fall in love?

Perhaps it's the nip in the air that has me reaching for warmer, cuddlier clothing.  I'm not talking the immobilized-in-a-parka clothes, but the ones that just cover you up enough so that your skin occasionally gets kissed by the crisp air and pulling them closer feels like you're pulling into a hug.

University Flavoured Fall

Perhaps it's the rush of newness. Change is in the air here in fall. New politics rolling on the hill. 

New students rushing into all the universities, hormones rippling in the air.  The thrill of the unknown, new trouble to get into, new adventures everywhere.

Perhaps it's the tickling of senses. Crisp apples in the air of the market. Every tree a bouquet as their leaves slip or snap into their fall colours. The bright blue of a cool fall sky. The rustle and crunch of leaves underfoot. The warm glow that engulfs your entire body after you come inside from a surprise fall rain.

Perhaps it's the nights. Evening walks along the canal as the sun sets and the wind whips the trees about. The stars popping out in the night sky. A warm hand slipping in to warm my cold fingers. The shooting stars. The the Northern Lights igniting the sky. The perfect setting for romance.

Perhaps it's that every time I've fallen in love, it's been in Ottawa in the fall.
